Potato Flake Sourdough Bread Loaf
Now that you have an active starter, it’s time to make bread!
Ingredients needed:
6 cups of bread flour
1 cup of potato flake sourdough starter
½ cup of vegetable oil
1 Tablespoon of salt
½ cup of sugar
1 ½ cups of warm water
Instructions:
Give your starter a stir before measuring it out.
Add all of your dry ingredients to bowl and stir well. Add the liquid ingredients. Mix by hand with a wooden spoon, stand mixer or a Danish spatula.
Form into a shaggy looking dough, form into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, bowl cover or tea towel.
Allow it to double in size. This will take anywhere from 6-10 hours. Time depends on the temperature of your home and strength of your starter.
After it has doubled in size, punch down the dough.
Divide into 3 parts and shape into loaves. Place into 3 greased loaf pans and cover with tea towel or plastic wrap.
Allow dough to rise until doubled.
When dough has doubled, usually 2-4 hours, Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove covering and bake for 30-40 minutes. Usually 35 minutes but depends on individual ovens. You may cover with foil if the bread is getting to dark but it’s not completely baked.
If you use a pan with lid, it will take the full 40 minutes.
Allow to cool before cutting so that middle will not be doughy.
This is a softer bread than the traditional artisan sourdough.
